The Office of Advancement has announced a new endeavor that allows students to connect with Lynchburg alumni and donors. The new Student Engagement Board aims to give students better networking opportunities while strengthening donor relations within the University of Lynchburg.

“We hope that SEB can be the foundation for creating connections between our current

student and alumni communities,” said Gillian Price ‘22, ‘24 MBA, the stewardship coordinator for the university’s Office of Advancement.

Though in its early stages, the SEB hopes to connect students with alumni through working with the Alumni Board, which has 25 alumni members, and LIFE@Lynchburg, which has 63 alumni members.

“It is crucial that students are offered the opportunity to create a culture of philanthropy on campus,” Price said.

In addition to networking with alumni, students will also have the opportunity to attend Alumni Board meetings, participate in cornerstone events on campus such as Homecoming and Give Day, and engage with university donors by creating thank you letters and videos.

As members of the SEB connect with members of the Alumni Board, they can expect to also take part in some of the key activities that the board is involved in, such as:

● Events: Organizing various events throughout the year, such as Homecoming and Family Weekend, Westover Weekend, chapter meetings, and educational sessions to engage alumni and students.

● Awards: Recognizing and celebrating the achievements of alumni through awards that honor their contributions and successes.

● Career Services: Offering career support and resources for alumni, helping them navigate job searches and professional development.

● Student Recruitment: Assisting in recruiting new students by volunteering and

sharing their experiences with prospective students.

Through its establishment, Price hopes that the SEB will help foster a deeper connection between students and donors and encourage both groups to become more involved in the University of Lynchburg community.

“Educating students on why giving back to the University in order to benefit their own experiences on campus is imperative when trying to strengthen the connection between Lynchburg alumni and the University,” Price said.
