Being named ODAC Runner of the Week for week seven, junior Chasen Hunt on the Lynchburg Cross Country team has excelled throughout this fall season. This is his third time receiving this honor, and after he completed the third fastest time in program history, Hunt recounts his reaction to the news.

“I was initially not too surprised, but it is still a cool honor that the ODAC does each week to spotlight the best runners in the conference,” said Hunt.

His dedication and fun-loving spirit make Hunt an ideal teammate to compete beside and cheer on. Evan Gates, a former runner and current media assistant for the team, speaks fondly of Hunt and his progress over the years.

“Chasen has found the perfect balance between being a goofball for his teammates on the track while competing against the nation’s best. He and his upperclassman teammates have matured and progressed so well under Coach Jake Reed, and the process starts with diligence,” he said.

It is not only his teammates, but Chasen’s assistant coach, Olivia Watson, also speaks highly of his positive attitude and immense talent that has led him to this honor for the third time in his collegiate career.

“Chasen has excelled over the season by bringing a positive attitude to practice each day and has already shown a lot of growth over this year not only as an athlete but also as an individual,” said Watson.

Maintaining a steady incline of success on the track and energy-giving behavior within his team, Hunt is undoubtedly on track to receive many more accolades within his time as a hornet and beyond.
