The University of Lynchburg will kick off its four-day joint Homecoming and Family Weekend celebrations on Thursday. Students will have the opportunity to bond with their Hornet family, reconnect with their own families, and network with University of Lynchburg alumni.
“We are merging Homecoming and Parents and Family weekends for a second year,” said Thomas H. Burrowes ‘93 ‘21, senior director of alumni & external engagement. “The mix of networking, entertainment, sports, and the classic tailgate vibe should provide an excellent experience for everyone involved.”
On Friday, the campus will hold its inaugural Horner2Hornet Conference. “The Hornet to Hornet event will provide a more structured and engaging experience for attendees,” Burrowes said.
The conference will feature keynote speaker Carter Elliot IV ‘19, press secretary for Maryland Governor Wes Moore. Students will be able to hear about his experiences as a University of Lynchburg student and his duties in his current role, as well as alumni from various fields, including health sciences, education, and hospitality.
“I am looking forward to hearing him speak about how school helped him to get to where he is now,” said sophomore Clifford Opoku.

Students are fresh off fall break and excited about this weekend’s activities, especially Saturday’s tailgate.
“Our alumni are focused on connecting with current students and having a good time,” said Richard Mass, president of Sigma Nu.
While junior communications major Erin Smith said, “I’m excited to have Dr. Roux’s Hornet Juice,”
As Burrowes noted, “Homecoming is about sharing past experiences while creating new memories.”
