It is easy to dread the upcoming semester after spending the past month without the stress of classes, due dates, exams and more. As 2024 begins, I have compiled three things to prepare for the five months ahead.

The first day of class can be stressful with everything being thrown at you at once. The best way to prepare to handle this is with a planner.

Having a way to jot down assignment due dates, course requirements, and extracurricular activities can help organize your day to day life. Planners come in many forms, from setting reminders on your phone to owning a physical planner. Having one around will keep you prepared at all times.

The second thing you should do to prepare for a new year of stressors is to check your email everyday. Professors and campus administrators are constantly sending out updates, reminders, and important information that you need to know. Checking your email everyday or having your email notifications forwarded to your phone will keep you updated and in the loop.

The last piece of advice for the new year of school is to carve out time for yourself and the people close to you. Yes, school is meant to educate you and prepare you for your future career, but what is that future without freedom? Try to plan out at least an hour or two of time spent doing a hobby, extracurricular, or time with friends to recover from a stressful day.

These three things alone will not get you through this semester. You must put in the time, effort, and dedication yourself to have a successful outcome. But, having these tools in your toolbox will make the journey a little less taxing and keep you a little more prepared for the future ahead of you.
