From Mar. 1, 2022, until Mar. 7, 2022, the University of Lynchburg’s Kappa Delta Chapter hosted events to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse in America (PCAA) Week

Jenna Marshall, vice president of Events and Programming of Kappa Delta, said, “On Mar. 1, we did bake sales in Schewel. On Mar. 2, we did raffle baskets, and we continued bake sale baskets inside of Schewel. On Mar. 3, we were selling pinwheels, doing pie a Kappa Delta, and continuing to sell raffle basket tickets. On Mar. 4, we did the cornhole tournament at the Kappa Delta House on Vernon Street, but we also had a little cookout and this was the last chance for everyone to buy raffle tickets. We took a day off on Mar. 5. On Mar. 6, this is the biggest event of the Shamrock Week and the most exciting because it is the first annual PCAA Golf Tournament. On Mar. 7, we are having Chipotle Night in Old Forest from 5:00 pm to 9:00 p.m.”

Marshall is pleased with the results of fundraising, stating, “I have exceeded my daily goals regarding donations. I definitely think marketing played a role, and Brooke Stoots, Vice President of Recruiting and Marketing of Kappa Delta, has done a fantastic job of advertising our events on social media.”

Stoots said, “I think the challenge of advertising the events is getting the word out there. Our sisters would get posters and create graphics every day for each event.”

Marshall also noted, “I think our events are new and unique to the chapter and the campus. I truly believe that the students have been more excited about our events than past years. Our most monetary successful event is the golf tournament.”

Carlie Vaughan, a University of Lynchburg ambassador and a member of Kappa Delta, said, “Prevent Child Abuse America is one of Kappa Delta’s philanthropies, so every year we hold Shamrock Week to fundraise for them.  One of our KD values is confidence and PCAA holds prevention programs and provides education to parents to ensure they have the confidence to build healthy relationships with their children, so it is super important to us!!  Child abuse and neglect can be an uncomfortable subject for some, but it is so important that we raise awareness.”

Vaughan clarified, “As far as Shamrock Week for PCAA previously, we do an annual corn hole tournament along with t-shirt sales and other general fundraising.  Our goal every year is to promote an important organization while still having fun.  I think that by having these fun events each year, we are able to bring awareness to our Lynchburg community in a positive way.”

Vaughan shared, “One thing I want those on campus to know is that although we are considered a social organization, we really value service. Our events may be fun and exciting,  but they have a deeper meaning to us and we hope those on campus realize that as well.”
