After taking a year-long hiatus due to the pandemic, Aurous: Journal of Visual Arts and Create Writing is back and accepting submissions for its 2020-2021 publication.
This journal showcases student artwork and writing, either completed from inside or outside the classroom. The last date to submit work is Mar. 19, and the edition will be published on Apr. 21.
Xavier Yancey, a senior english major with a graphic design minor, is the Creative Writing Director and Editor of the Aurous.
“The Aurous is meant to display the exceptional artwork and creative writing of students from the University of Lynchburg and offers students a chance to have their art and writing showcased to the campus community,” he explained. “At the moment, the Aurous’ staff is working on getting the word out to students to submit their work.”
Kate Duncan also works for the Aurous as the Art Director and Editor. She is a junior graphic design major with a minor in digital media. She said that usually all types of artwork and writing are accepted as long as these pieces were created in the past year.
However, she said, “In the case of this year, [we are accepting work from] the past two years because we did not get to have the Aurous last year due to Covid, so students are allowed to submit work from last year as well.”
Yancey and Duncan said that they and the rest of the staff are busy working on spreading the word so that students will send them their submissions.
Yancey added, “We are also looking for eager students who would like to join the staff as Creative Writing Representatives. I am most excited to see the creative writing submissions that we will get this year. The Aurous does not typically get many creative writing submissions, so I am excited and hoping to get more submissions this year.”
Duncan said that she published work in the Aurous as a freshman, and wanted to join the staff last year but could not due to the pandemic. “I am really excited to have the opportunity to work with Xavier and our staff to put together this year’s Aurous!”
