LYNCHBURG, Va. – University of Lynchburg men’s basketball sophomore Jamarcus Brown has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Brown’s dominant performance in the game helped the team have a successful week, with a victory over Eastern Mennonite University.

While Brown is often known for his plays at the rim, this recognition highlights his impact on the other end of the floor as well.

“It feels really good. People talk about my athleticism or my flashy dunks, but I am glad my defense is starting to get seen more,” said Brown.

Head coach Hilliary Scott believes Brown’s defense has become a necessity on the court and a threat to every team they are matched up against.

“Jamarcus has been very active on the defensive end. His athleticism causes issues for opponents…he has the ability to block shots or change shots while being one of the best rebounders in the league,” said Scott.

Scott also noted that Brown has been playing with “a ton of confidence,” showing his growth as a result of the work put in since last spring to improve his passing and perimeter shooting.

Brown’s teammates have also noticed the shift in energy in him. Fellow teammate and senior guard Piercen Young noted that when a game gets intense, Brown brings the energy.

“His dunks and big-time blocks set the tone for the rest of the team and lifted all of us up,” Young said.

Both Brown and Young have noted the strong team chemistry that played a major role in their success, Brown calling the win against EMU their “best game as a team all year.”

The Hornets must now shift their focus to an upcoming conference match-up against Roanoke this week, where Brown intends to maintain his level of play by remaining aggressive and confident.
