The Lynchburg Swim Team opened its season at the ODAC Relays, placing second for the men out of eight teams and third out of ten for the women.
With the team already performing at a high level for the start of the season, the assistant men’s and women’s swim coach, Emily Zimcosky, said the team’s culture plays a significant role in its success.
“As a staff, we push our student-athletes out of their comfort zones most every day with hard sets, early morning workouts, and lots of racing opportunities. The most successful teams, in and out of the water, are those that can come together each day and embrace the long, grinding process,” said Zimcosky.

With a more extended preseason than most sports on campus, fifth-year Will Kasemeyer, who earned third in the 100 freestyle relay, appreciates the extra time needed to adjust.
“Although swim preseason is long and arduous, it whips everyone back into shape and allows the team to improve at a much more accelerated rate,” he said.
First year student, Andrew Neculai dominated at the season opener, as he assisted in leading the team to first place in the 400 freestyle relay. He is excited about the swim season and is motivated after the win to continue to work toward a successful year.
“I’m looking forward to contributing to the team and being a part of something bigger than myself. I’m also looking forward to getting closer as a team, as I think that will be a major part of our success this year,” said Neculai.
After an electrifying first meet of the season and their full schedule ahead of them, Lynchburg Swim is ready to hit the ground running…or hit the water swimming.
