Sigma Phi Epsilon (Sig Ep) is gearing up for spring rush this week, and it might look a little different than previous years. Starting Feb. 15, the fraternity will be hosting “Wing Night” in the Hopwood Auditorium.

Sig Ep is one of four fraternities on campus at the University of Lynchburg. Recruiting new members each year is important for the fraternity to replace the seniors who will be graduating this year.

Members of group believe that being in a fraternity at Lynchburg has many benefits.

“Sig Ep has shown me that after, and even during college, there are a vast number of opportunities just waiting for me to take advantage of,” said Tyler Pritchard, a sophomore member of the fraternity.

Brandon Kelman, a senior and the President of Sig Ep, stressed that rush events are an important part of the recruiting process.

“Instead of thinking of it as a chance to get new members, we see it as a chance to meet some new guys that could be our brothers for life,” Kelman said.

Following a night with wings, the fraternity will host three more events and conclude the week with a virtual “Invite Only Dinner.” The scheduled events consist of bowling, golfing, and a casino night.

These events are a critical part of the process, but members said they enjoy the experience because it is a great opportunity to start friendships and network with students on campus.

“It gives all the brothers a chance to sit down and talk to the rushes outside of the classroom,” Pritchard said. “It also gives us an idea of what the rushes are like outside of school and what they like to do.”

This is a chance for students to network as well as create new friendships. Kelman explained how being in a fraternity has been a great experience.

“It has provided me with vital career and networking experience that helped to prepare me for my future,” Kelman said.

This Friday, Feb. 19, Sig Ep will welcome new members that will be a part of a brotherhood for years to come. Younger members will have to step into bigger roles, as the current president will graduate this spring along with other senior members.
