As the preseason for the NBA (National Basketball Association) begins, and the regular season is on the loom, teams and players are still making some last-minute updates to their rosters to ensure themselves a shot at the championship next June.
We’ve already seen some notable moves take place this summer; Paul George and Carmelo Anthony signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Chris Paul joining James Harden in Houston and leaving L.A., and let’s not forget the blockbuster trade between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics that moved Kyrie Irving to Boston and Isiah Thomas, along with Jae Crowder, to “The Land.” Even after all of that, we still haven’t seen it all.
This past Wednesday, Sept. 27, the Cleveland Cavaliers made yet another free-agent move in offering Dwayne Wade a contract – one which he signed. The elite shooting guard, who previously played on the Chicago Bulls, took the veteran’s option of one year, earning $2.3 million to reserve his spot as the newest Cavalier on the 2017-18 roster.
In his career, Dwyane Wade has won three championships, was named the Final MVP (most valuable player) in 2006 and has made an appearance at the NBA’s All-Star game 12 times. In his career Wade also played alongside the star small-forward Lebron James on the Miami Heat. In Miami, the two star players quickly became known as one of the best duos in NBA history and they dominated. Winning three rings together, James and Wade had everything going for them in South Beach. It wasn’t until Lebron left Miami to return home to Cleveland that the two future hall of famers ended their reign. Now, we get to see the reunion of the two in Cleveland and things couldn’t get more interesting.
With all the offseason moves that have taken place, it’s hard to tell who will be crowned the champs at the end of the season. Each team has stacked their rosters, and players have worked all summer in an attempt to win it all. With the preseason beginning, it’s only a matter of time before all the action starts.
