On Saturday, Sept. 23,  more free agent news hit the internet in what has already been an eventful offseason for the NBA. Star power-forward Carmelo Anthony, formerly a part of the New York Knicks organization, requested for a buyout this summer and teams have been jostling for the elite athlete ever since.

Anthony has been involved with a lot of speculation and rumors about where he would end up. According to CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone, the current general manager of the New York Knicks, Steve Mills released to the press over the summer that “he (Carmelo Anthony) ‘may or may not’ be part of the Knicks’ plan moving forward.” From a fan’s perspective, there is no interest being shown between Anthony and the Knicks to give reason for him to be there anymore, so everybody had to know, where would Anthony end up next?

Well, we got our answer over the weekend. On Sept. 23, Anthony reached an agreement with his former team to part ways and join the Oklahoma City Thunder. Oklahoma had already made a big free agent move this summer in signing star shooting guard, Paul George. With the addition of the 10 time all star, the Thunder have really made things interesting for the upcoming 2017-18 NBA season. Keep in mind that Russell Westbrook, the star point-guard, is also on the Thunder and is coming off a historic 2016-17 season, in which he was awarded the league’s MVP (most valuable player). With Westbrook, George and now Anthony all on the same team, things can really turn around in the Western conference.

Unfortunately, we as fans can only dream about what kind of basketball the three all-stars will play when the season kicks off. For now, let’s just see if the offseason brings anymore last-minute surprises to the table.
